CRESP is pleased to advertise a new PhD scholarship in suicide prevention commencing in 2016.

Funded in 2012 by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, the Centre of Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention (CRESP) aims to bring together leading experts in Australia and New Zealand to undertake the necessary research to effect rapid advances in suicide prevention.

The team consists of six National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) research fellows, all international experts in these fields, established suicide researchers in Australia and New Zealand, and international suicide prevention experts from Europe, Asia and USA. CRESP is located at The Black Dog Institute, a large collaborative research institute at UNSW Australia. The Institute provides community education and professional development programs. It incorporates a clinic which offers psychiatric assessment and psychological treatment. For more information, you can visit the website at www.blackdoginstitute.org.au.

The Scholarship will be supervised by the Black Dog Institute and the recipient will complete suicide prevention research within CRESP.  

The Scholarship ($30,025 per annum, tax free) is provided for 3 years to a candidate commencing a PhD.

Extra funds of up to $5,000 may be available for approved expenses related to the recipient’s research, such as travel to relevant scientific meetings for presentation of research findings etc. 

Candidates for the scholarship are expected to have a:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline with first-class honours or high 2.1, or a Masters degree with a research component.
  • Demonstrated commitment and knowledge and experience in mental health.
